Cleves School Beginners Chess will be starting a twelve week term from Friday 19 April 2024 to 12 July 2024. Chess club runs every Friday after school in the Art Studio between 3.20pm and 4.20pm and the cost this term is £104.40. This term we will be focusing on learning to record matches, chess clocks and strategies in preparation for entry to Intermediate club in September.
Chess is a challenging pastime, which develops logical thinking, concentration, forward planning and self-control. Success at chess often helps the development of personal confidence which has been shown to enhance achievement in basic school subjects. We operate a simplified “Swiss system” which means: Win = 3 points, draw = 2 points, loss = 1 point. Each player has their own score card and points are recorded weekly after each match. At the end of term there is a prize for the player with the highest score and a medal for 2nd and 3rd place.
If you would like your son/daughter to continue/attend chess club, please complete the details below to register and pay. If you have more than one child playing in chess club, please enter the code SIB when you complete the registration form for the SECOND SIBLING only attending. Places will be offered to existing players first and then on a first come first served basis. Half a term’s notice in writing is required to cancel membership of the chess club.
In order to keep your children safe and sound, could you let me know if your child is unable to come to chess club for any reason either by email kevannucci@icloud.com or by texting 07989474533 before the lesson.
