Cleves School Beginners Chess Club

Dear Parent/Guardian

Wherever you are in the world, whatever your age or nationality, playing chess will be your international passport to hours of fun.

During the Spring 2019 Term we will once again take part in the Delancey Schools UK Chess Challenge. This competition has been running for 24 years and last year attracted over 40,000 children from about 1200 schools and clubs up and down the country.

The first stage of the tournament is played once a week in school at chess club. Pairings are made on a simplified Swiss system: Win = 3 points; Draw or Stalemate = 2 points; Loss = 1 point. At the beginning of term, as soon as a player reaches 3 points, they will be given a badge. Players must take great care of their badges as they will be awarded gold spots to stick on them each time they accumulate another three points. There are also other prizes at 11 points and 15 points. Players with the highest score at the end of term in each age group qualify for the Area Megafinal held in May. Winners of that tournament will qualify for the Gigafinal taking place in July and winners from that will go on to play in The Terafinal taking place inAugust. At the end of term there is a prize for the top player with the highest overall score.

BEGINNERS CHESS IS EVERY FRIDAY IN THE ART STUDIO BETWEEN 3.25PM – 4.25PM AND IS FOR PLAYERS WITH LITTLE OR NO EXPERIENCE.

The first session is 11 January 2019. Cost for the term £72.00. To register and pay, just follow the details below:
